| The pendant I am wearing at the moment depicts the pattern which is on the cover of the well that was designed in the nineteenth century by archaeologist Bligh Bond, and which represents the 'vesica pisces' symbol, and Excalibur, the sword of King Arthur. It is believed that the Chalice Well was built by the Druids, and that its water has magical powers associated with healing and immortality.
Chalice Well is a holy well situated at the foot of Glastonbury Tor in the county of Somerset, England. In addition to the legends associated with Glastonbury, the Well is often portrayed as a symbol of the female aspect of deity, with the male symbolized by Glastonbury Tor. At many places where the Goddess was honoured, holy wells were found which were fed by watercourses underground. As such, it is a popular destination for pilgrims in search of the divine feminine including modern Pagans. The Well is however popular with all faiths and in 2001 became a World Peace Garden.
But there is more to it and I will let the videos speak nowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6s-eUkBAZU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb4xy754Gmc&feature=feedf

| It's one of my dreams to spend a year or so on the British Isles. I would certainly visit all these places full of mystery and legend. I love the design of your pendant Naema. Beautiful. I've always been fascinated by the golden mean as in the vesica pisces. It represents the harmony of the universe. |

| My dear brother and sister...it's time for a confession...... Hawkwood and I once lived in Bath. In fact, in Gloucestershire, approximately one hour's drive from the Tor and the Chalice Well.... but for all kind af reasons we never went there, much to our regret. I would have loved to dwell in that peaceful garden myself Claudia. Our son however did go to the Tor with his friends and came back with a funny smile on his face and a sanguinish kind of walk...yep.. the magic mushrooms grew in abundancy over there!
Jean Shinoda Bolen wrote a book called: Crossing to Avalon: A Woman's Midlife Pilgrimage. She started her pilgrimage here in Amsterdam, and first travelled to Chartres and the Cathedral with the labyrinth. From there she went to Glastonbury, to London, to Findhorn in Scotland, and to Iona, the Sacred Island. Her writing is wise and challenging, and according to Alice Walker: "a useful companion for the soul journeys of our time, which is The Time of the Goddess Returning'. I can highly recommend it! |

| Thank you, Naema, for such a compelling article. The author John Michell also determined that the exact profile of the Great Pyramid can be found in the chalice well design, simply by extending lines from the intersecting circumferences of the two circles. This is not to assume, of course, that the well has an Ancient Egyptian connection, but rather that both of these things belonged to a body of ancient knowledge about such symmetries and 'sacred proportions'. |

| Naema and Hawkwood Thank you Naema for sharing your knowledge of the Chalice Well at Glastonbury and the vesica pisces geometry. The vesica pisces is very interesting and is the foundation for the "flower of life" geometry. It is fascinating. In essence the two circles' circumferences pass through the center points of each circle. Certainly there are many layers of meanings and interpretation of this symbol. I can certainly see its association with the creation of life and the divine feminine principle. It's really more than a symbol as the mathematics express an inherent truth. This is power of the vesica pisces. Here is a very short video on the geometry but using the spiral based on the fibonacci series (or the golden mean) that I found intriguing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXsKh1p6vIg Namaste |

| What an elegantly expressed animation, Joe! The fibonacci series and the golden mean are themselves expressions of the univerality of these geometries, which I'm sure you know can be found in many natural forms as well as in art. Artists have long made use of the golden mean to create proportions which are inherently pleasing to the eye, which express a 'rightness' to the observer. I have found several in Albrecht Dürer's famous engraving 'Melancholia', and Dürer himself learned of the use of such proportions when he travelled to Italy - a journey not without its dangers at such a time! |
